About Dungeon Master
Dungeon Master is an online role-playing game that uses pseudo-3D first-person perspectives. FTL Games published it for the Atari ST in 1987. It also had identical Amiga (DOS) ports in 1988 and 1992. Dungeon Master, a turn-based system that was most popular in 1987, added real-time combat elements similar to Active Time Battle. Sound effects were used to show a nearby creature and (primitive) dynamic lighting. These are two other factors that contribute to immersiveness.
Abstract Dungeons and Dragons-style experience points and levels were abandoned in favour of a system that allowed characters to improve their skills by using them. Dungeon Master did not introduce these features. These features were first introduced in 1982 by Dungeons Of Daggorath, who used them for the TRS-80 Colour Computer. These elements were popularized by Dungeon Master, however. Dungeon Master also allowed players to directly manipulate objects and the surrounding environment by clicking on the mouse in the expanded first-person view.
