About Total Annihilation
Total Annihilation is a real time strategy (RTS), video game developed by Cavedog Entertainment and Chris Taylor, the lead designer. The Core is an amalgamation of the “Consciousness Repository”, a central body made up of humans and artificial intelligences. Because of its technological and economic successes, the Core has allowed humanity to colonize large swathes of the Milky Way and enjoy peace & prosperity. The balance is upset by a technological breakthrough that allows the conscious of a human being, to be transferred reliably into a machine. This is called “patterning” and it is a procedure that theoretically grants infinite life. A war lasting 4,000 years followed, with the Arm mass-producing clones as pilots for its vehicles and the Core duplicating consciousness-embedded microchips to pilot its own machines.
