In the Dragon Age series, player choices have always shaped the experience, making each playthrough unique. According to BioWare, the developers of the upcoming Dragon Age: The Veilguard, this tradition will continue by ensuring that no single continuity defines the game’s canon. The studio wants to respect player decisions from previous titles and avoid invalidating them in the new release.

Creative director Jon Epler, in a recent interview with GamesRadar, emphasized BioWare’s commitment to not establishing a “single canon” for the Dragon Age games. He stated, “We never want you to feel like your world state is being invalidated,” and explained that if the development team can’t respect a player’s past decisions, they simply won’t reference them. This approach allows players to feel that their unique story remains intact as the series progresses.

Set roughly a decade after Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Veilguard avoids contradicting earlier choices by setting the game in a different region of Thedas. Epler clarified that while not every player’s decision will be referenced, BioWare will ensure that nothing from past games is outright dismissed or invalidated.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set for release on October 31 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, and fans of the series can look forward to a game that respects the rich, player-driven histories of its predecessors.
