The Sims 5 Coming EA Expand Franchise With Multiplayer And Creator Kits
Electronic Arts (EA) has announced a new direction for its popular life-simulation game, “The Sims,” with no plans to release a traditional “Sims 5.” Instead, the company will continue expanding the current “Sims 4” with updates, paid expansions, and new content, while introducing a separate multiplayer project called “Project Rene.”
EA’s Kate Gorman, VP and general manager of “The Sims” franchise, confirmed that “Project Rene” will bring multiplayer features to the “Sims” universe. This move marks a shift in the series, which has previously focused on single-player experiences. Gorman emphasized that the decision to not release a “Sims 5” was driven by a desire to preserve player progress from “The Sims 4,” allowing fans to continue their gameplay without restarting with a new title.
In addition to the multiplayer experience, EA will launch “Creator Kits,” enabling players to sell their custom in-game content via the EA store. This initiative will support and compensate creators, a popular feature within the “Sims” community, where custom content sharing has thrived on platforms like Discord and Patreon.
While “The Sims 4” will receive regular updates, including a major patch and the new “Life & Death” expansion, players can look forward to more details on “Project Rene” in the future.
