The long-rumored remake of Halo: Combat Evolved might be further along in development than initially anticipated. Insider reports now suggest that the iconic first-person shooter, which launched Xbox’s renowned Halo franchise, could release sooner than the 2026 date previously speculated.

Developer 343 Industries, now renamed Halo Studios, recently announced a shift to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 for future projects. This transition follows the underwhelming post-launch performance of Halo Infinite despite a strong initial release in 2021. The studio has been working to improve Infinite while possibly developing the Halo: Combat Evolved remake in parallel.

The latest rumor, shared by insider Shpeshal_Nick on the XboxEra Podcast, hints that the remake won’t take until 2025, with a 2026 launch being more likely. While details remain unconfirmed, the project might be built on Unreal Engine, moving away from the Slipspace engine used in Halo Infinite.

Halo Studios is also continuing updates for Halo Infinite, including its current Operation: Halloween event and a planned third-person mode later this year. Although the remake’s release date is still speculative, fans might get an official announcement in 2024.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development!
