A new chapter in the Destiny universe has been revealed with the announcement of Destiny: Rising, a mobile-exclusive RPG shooter developed by NetEase Games. Set in an alternate timeline, the game offers a fresh take on the Destiny lore, taking place during a bygone era before the existence of Guardians.

The trailer for Destiny: Rising showcases gameplay that feels familiar to Destiny fans, blending first-person and third-person combat, with recognizable locations and enemies from across the Sol System. Unlike Destiny 2, however, this game focuses on unique hero-based characters with new abilities. While the reveal is exciting, there are still many unanswered questions, particularly around how the game fits into the broader Destiny universe.

NetEase, the studio behind Once Human and Diablo Immortal, is leading development, while Bungie’s involvement seems to be focused on the narrative and lore. Fans concerned about Bungie being stretched thin should note that the developer remains focused on Destiny 2 and its upcoming Codename: Frontiers content, while also working on Marathon despite recent layoffs.

Players eager to try Destiny: Rising can sign up for the closed alpha test, which begins on November 1. However, no official release date has been announced. Though the game’s visuals and mechanics align with the main Destiny experience, fans should prepare for mobile-style monetization typical of the platform.
