New Concept Art Emerges from Canceled PlayStation Game by London Studio
Two fresh pieces of concept art from a canceled PlayStation live-service game by London Studio have recently surfaced online. The images, discovered on former London Studio artist Léa Pinto’s ArtStation profile, offer a glimpse into what could have been a co-op fantasy game set in a stylized, fantastical version of London.
London Studio, a veteran PlayStation team established in 2002, was renowned for its experimental titles, including Singstar, PlayStation Home, and PlayStation VR Worlds. Despite its legacy, the studio was shut down by Sony in February 2024, halting the development of this promising PS5 project.
Originally, London Studio shared one piece of concept art for the game in 2022, revealing a unique fantasy London, filled with neon lights and whimsical references to creatures like fairies, orcs, and elves. Pinto’s newly discovered art continues this theme, echoing the original’s distinctive style, reminiscent of Blade Runner 2049 with its moody, neon-lit aesthetic.
The reason behind London Studio’s closure remains unclear, though it’s speculated that Sony is pulling back from its ambitious live-service gaming plans. The rumored Twisted Metal live-service title by Firesprite and The Last of Us Online by Naughty Dog were also recently canceled, suggesting Sony may be scaling back on these projects.
With its unique visual identity, London Studio’s canceled project adds another chapter to the legacy of unreleased games, leaving fans wondering what could have been.
