Anno 1503 – A wonderful sequel with a glaring oversight
A small Austrian developer, MAX Design, had previously created several successful games such as Oldtimer. But nothing could have prepared them for the meteoric success Anno 1602 experienced when it was first released in Spring 1998. Anno 1602 quickly rose to prominence in the PC strategy market, thanks to its stellar sales and rave reviews. With great success comes great expectations. When it came time to plan their next game, the team had to consider the additional burden of creating a sequel for Germany’s top-selling PC game.
It shouldn’t be surprising that Anno 1503 was developed long ago. The game finally came out in Fall 2002, more than four years after its original release. Anno 1503 was finally released in Fall 2002. It offered much new content, including hundreds of building models and biomes, as well as some major changes to 1602’s traditional gameplay.
