Baldur’s Gate 3 Player Unlocks Full Developer Toolkit, Enabling Fully Custom Content and Campaigns
A Baldur’s Gate 3 player has successfully unlocked Larian Studios’ complete developer toolkit, opening the door for modders to create fully custom content and campaigns within the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG. This significant achievement comes from modder Siegfre, whose BG3 Toolkit Unlocked mod was recently spotted on NexusMods by GamesRadar.
The mod “unlocks all features and write permissions for the BG3 Toolkit, including level editing, save editing, and more.” This breakthrough grants modders unparalleled control over Baldur’s Gate 3, going beyond Larian’s original intentions for modding support, which was rolled out as part of the game’s highly anticipated Patch 7.
While the BG3 Toolkit allows players to utilize Larian’s assets to craft custom content, the BG3 Toolkit Unlocked mod takes it one step further by giving access to elements that weren’t intended to be modifiable. Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, had previously stated that Baldur’s Gate 3 modding would be more restricted than their previous title, Divinity: Original Sin 2, due to the complexity of the game’s tools. As Vincke explained in March 2024, not all tools would be released, as Larian wouldn’t be able to support them fully.
Now, with this unlocked toolkit in hand, the possibilities for modders are vast and potentially game-changing. The modding community has already embraced the BG3 Toolkit, as Vincke revealed that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of its release. The number rapidly accelerated, crossing three million installations by the end of the day.
Patch 7 itself brought more than just official modding tools to Baldur’s Gate 3. It also introduced new narrative content, including an intense final arc for the fan-favorite character Karlach and a hidden evil ending for those willing to explore darker paths. Excitingly, Larian has confirmed that Patch 7 won’t be the final update for the game, hinting at even more content to come.
