Blizzard Has No Plans of Implementing Tab Overlay Mapping in Diablo 4
Diablo 4’s open beta gave us an impressive glimpse at its much-awaited hack and slash RPG, showing off how its narrative taps into Diablo’s extensive history. Unfortunately, many players noted the absence of an overlay Tab map for some reason – an oversight which raised several alarm bells for many participants.
If you were hoping that feature would be integrated at launch, be aware that its implementation seems unlikely – Blizzard has confirmed they do not plan to implement this at this time.
Rod Fergusson of Diablo General Management shared the news via twitter by responding to an inquiry regarding possible plans to add an overland map tab in Diablo IV with this response: “No plans at the present.”
Unfortunately, this means we might not see this feature added for launch of the game, making the news rather disappointing.
The beta offered a detailed map that you could quickly bring up at any time to keep tabs on where you were in Diablo IV’s sprawling open world.
The main issue was that it covered up most of the screen and made it impossible to both see your position and move your character as easily, something which earlier games in this series allowed.
Fergusson’s response clearly suggests that the team behind the game is currently focused on other matters, including making changes based on player feedback since beta.
Keep in mind, however, that he did not completely rule out adding an overlay map for Diablo IV Tab in the future.
At times it may be hard to discern exactly what “at this time” entails; if something won’t be available at launch there may still be the opportunity for post-launch updates to bring it in later on.
Diablo IV’s launch on June 6, when it will arrive for PCs, Xbox Series X/S consoles, Xbox Ones, PS5s and PS4s is fast approaching.
