Helldivers 2 Rebalancing Patch Lands: Stronger Guns, Easier Titans, and Calls for More Challenge
Arrowhead Studios has finally dropped the long-awaited rebalancing patch for Helldivers 2, and the early reactions are overwhelmingly positive. Players are loving the increased power of guns and stratagems, with weapons like the Autocannon and Thermite Grenade now dealing significantly more damage, particularly to larger enemies like Bile Titans, Chargers, and Hulks. The update makes these once-intimidating foes feel more manageable, giving players a broader array of options to take them down efficiently.
The largest Terminid and Automaton enemies are no longer as oppressive, and players appreciate the patch’s emphasis on making key weapons feel more impactful. Bunny Asap, a user on Twitter, shared a common sentiment with Arrowhead’s creative director Johan Pilestedt: “Everything is great but we need a new harder difficulty now.” It seems that while the update has made higher-level play more accessible, it may have also taken some of the bite out of the game’s most difficult challenges.
After spending a few hours with the patch, it’s clear that even at levels I previously found punishing, my teams were taking down Bile Titans and Chargers before they could pose much threat. The newly empowered weapons and stratagems, which now penetrate their once-imposing armor, have made even higher difficulty settings feel a bit too easy for veteran players.
While I certainly don’t miss the days of watching an Autocannon round bounce harmlessly off a Bile Titan, there’s a sense that Helldivers 2 may have tipped the balance too far in favor of the player. However, it’s still early days. More time spent adjusting to the update could reveal a more nuanced difficulty, especially at the higher levels like 9 and 10, which I used to avoid. For now, though, it seems Super Earth is well-equipped for victory, perhaps a little too much.
