I am a Warlock Main, and Well of Radiance needs a Nerf to Destiny 2.
Well of Radiance requires a nerf Destiny2. That’s it. It’s probably an unpopular opinion. Warlocks don’t have much but Well is such absolute power. That’s it. Well of Radiance, as it stands, is so powerful that it can warp the Destiny2 PVE meta. Somebody has to give.
The Warlock Supers are generally in a somewhat awkward place in Destiny2 right now. Because Guardians have 3.0 updates and are equipped with weaponry that can decimate rooms of enemies faster than a Nova Warp, Stormtrance, or other supers, many roaming Supers are not very useful in PvE. Also, concentrated weapon fire against bosses is often less effective than bursty and single-target supers. Warlocks are often railroaded into using Well of Radiance for PVE activities.
Although I love Well, we are back to where we were in Season of Opulence when I first started playing destiny 2during Season of Opulence. Although Warlocks don’t have to wear Lunafaction Boots anymore (at least, they aren’t), Well of Radiance remains the best option for the class in most Raids, high-level PVE activities, and other raids. Worse, Well’s dominance as an ability that provides both offensive and defensive capabilities impacts fireteam composition. There’s no reason why a Titan should run Ward of Dawn if Warlocks are present.
How should Bungie approach Well of Radiance adjustments in Destiny2? It could be nerfed by removing the damage buff and replacing it with a buff for ability regeneration or something similar. This would enable Well to remain a beacon of survival while encouraging Titans and others to use Ward of Dawn to gain a damage boost against raid bosses. Radiant would have more space to shine with Dawnblade Warlocks’ ranged melee ability.
However, I doubt that making Well more difficult would solve the problem of Warlocks in destiny 2PVE. More Super options are needed for Warlocks to take out bosses. Warlocks could be given a Celestial Nighthawk Exotic, making Chaos Reach a fast single-bomb with significant damage. This would change the Warlock Super balance. This would make Chaos Reach more appealing as a Super and give Warlocks an option to deal significant damage to Raid bosses. A second possibility is to have Vortex Nova Bomb create a Divinity-like Crit spot and debuff on the target. This would help restore Vortex Nova Bomb’s identity, which Arc Hunters now have an improved version.
Bungie has many options, but I believe Well of Radiance requires a significant overhaul in Destiny2 to reduce its dominance of the meta. This is not a high-skill player. I am a Warlock main who would like to make more Nightfalls and Raids decisions than cast Well.
