Microsoft Signs a Deal to Make Call of Duty On PlayStation For “Several More Years”

There have been many questions about whether Call of Duty games will continue to be available on other platforms after Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard. The Xbox manufacturer confirmed that it had signed a deal to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation platforms until the end of the business deal.

According to The Verge, Xbox Head Phil Spencer stated that the agreement was in place in January. He also said that it would guarantee Call of Duty titles would appear on PlayStation 5 at the moment, but the “at least several additional years” does allow the company to make the series exclusive to Xbox and Windows one day. After the company stated Call of Duty would remain multiplatform earlier in the year, it seems like there is an unspoken timeline for when this will happen.

Spencer stated to The Verge that he had provided a signed agreement with Sony in January to guarantee Call of Duty on PlayStation. This offer goes beyond what is typically expected from the gaming industry.

Microsoft’s acquisitions, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard have made platform exclusivity conversations more common. These are two major, previously third-party studios that have mass appeal franchises. While the future may seem far away, Call of Duty is likely to remain multiplatform at the moment.
