Nickelodeon Develops AAA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game
Everybody has an old media property that hits the nostalgia button, regardless of its quality. It makes us put on blinders and march on the internet to argue, “Actually, I think the new one is intentionally bad to make it difficult to remember the 1980s version. Which means that it was successful.” That property for me is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Luckily, those blinders have been forgotten this year, as my mean green teen team has been smashing it with Shredder’s Reign and The Cowabunga Collection. But it seems that a new AAA title might be joining the ranks of Ninja Turtles games that I’m interested in.
This month’s issue of Toy World magazine has the news. It was brought to our attention via NickALive. A few paragraphs are included in the back issue, page 170. They discuss Paramount’s plans and goals for the event. This half-page is mostly about Paw Patrol or Baby Shark. However, it ends with a brief update on Paramount’s and Nickelodeon’s current plans for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
“Paramount also plans to re-master Konami’s the Cowabunga Collection at the end of the year,” Toy World confusingly stated, “and will launch an original Triple-A Triple-A game by 2023.”
This is all they provided. Assuming that AAA games are something with a large budget, this is what we can take as a given. Toy World may be using the same meaning when discussing this new game.
Nickelodeon would normally announce and release a new game simultaneously in the same year. This is their usual mode of operation. In the past, license holders have avoided higher-budget games. A AAA or TMNT title would be an entirely new experience for them. Assuming we all have the same definitions of AAA,
