Global Play allows players to earn points in Nintendo Switch Sports by playing. These points can be based on performance, level played at and achievements like multiple Strikes in a row when bowling. These points can be used to unlock cosmetics for your Sportsmate by collecting them.

Players will typically gain 50 points per game. The level of play and how well the player did can affect the number of points earned. The player can unlock an item from a collection once they have 100 points.

Every collection includes a variety of items including clothing, new facial features and new styles of equipment. Each Collection will feature a different theme and players will be able to unlock a random item. Players can’t select the item, so they need to be lucky or get all of them to get what they want.

The two Collections currently available are the Simple Collection, which includes basic items, and the Cute Collection, which has brighter colours and more kawaii options. As a Completion Bonus, you will receive more items if you collect all the items in the Collection. These seem like new outfits, but they could change.

The following are the most recent collectables at the time of writing:

  • Variations of sporting equipment can refer to new styles and/or colours for items like tennis racquets and volleyballs and chambara blades.
  • There are many hats to choose from, including baseball caps and beanies.
  • There are many types of eyewear available, including prescription glasses and sunglasses.
  • Eye styles and beards are facial features.
  • There are many accessories and cosmetics available, including makeup and face paint.
  • Activewear is changing in new styles and colours, as are clothes.
  • You can add new titles to your character card.
  • Stamps that can be used in-game to emote.

Players will need to continue playing in order to get all the rewards they desire. It is unknown if and when the Collections will change. Notably, Trial Mode allows for only two items per week. This means that players can unlock customisation options without a Nintendo Online subscription. However, they will have a limit on how many they can unlock.
