Capcom’s acclaimed 2019 remake of Resident Evil 2 is set to arrive on Apple devices on December 31. The remake, which revamped the 1998 classic with stunning visuals and a new over-the-shoulder perspective using the RE Engine, has been praised as one of the best games of 2019. It also laid the groundwork for other successful Capcom remakes, including Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4, along with influencing EA’s 2023 Dead Space remake.

Capcom has been gradually expanding its Resident Evil catalog to Apple products. Both Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 remake were made available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac last year, with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard following this summer, though it saw modest sales. Other major publishers, including Sony and Ubisoft, have also brought AAA titles like Death Stranding and Assassin’s Creed Mirage to Apple devices.

To play Resident Evil 2 on iPhone or iPad, users will need at least an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or newer. For Mac users, devices with an M1 chip or later are required. Players can use Bluetooth controllers for a more traditional gaming experience or opt for touch controls.

While Resident Evil 2 is the latest remake coming to Apple platforms, fans are wondering why the 2020 Resident Evil 3 remake hasn’t yet followed suit. As more AAA titles come to mobile, there’s speculation Capcom may bring other franchises, such as Dead Rising or Devil May Cry, to iPhone and iPad in the future.

Meanwhile, rumors about Resident Evil 9, reportedly titled Resident Evil Apocalypse, have been circulating, suggesting the next game could feature an open-world approach and familiar characters like Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine. Fans are eagerly awaiting official news on the next installment in the series.
