Skyrim Grandma Bids Farewell to Game Streaming After Nine Years
In the age of social media, almost anyone can become a star, but few have captured hearts like Shirley Curry, better known as Skyrim Grandma. At 88 years old, Curry is widely regarded as the world’s oldest video game streamer, with over 1.29 million subscribers on her YouTube channel. After nearly a decade of creating Skyrim gameplay videos, however, Curry has decided to step away from that part of her life.
Curry announced in a recent video, explaining her decision to stop gaming content. “I’m just doing it for fun and it isn’t fun anymore,” she shared. “I’m tired of it. I’m bored with it. I’m bored to death with it. So I am making the decision now, totally, finally. I am not going to be making any more game videos and uploading them.”
Though she’s stepping back from gaming content, Curry emphasized that she isn’t leaving YouTube altogether. She still plans to create videos on topics like novels she’s read, a quilt project, and even a potential book she may write. This shift is not entirely unexpected, as Curry reduced her posting schedule in 2020, citing negative comments and the need to focus on her health.
Despite moving away from gaming, Curry’s love for Skyrim has left a lasting mark on the community, including earning admiration from Bethesda. In 2019, the company revealed that Curry’s likeness would be featured as an NPC in The Elder Scrolls VI, ensuring that her legacy will live on in the game she’s best known for playing.
