Sony Pulls Concord From Sale and Shuts Down Servers After Disappointing Launch

In a surprising move, Sony has decided to pull Concord from sale and shut down its servers after just a week on the market. The game struggled to gain traction, with only 25,000 sales and consistently low player numbers. As a result, Sony has opted to discontinue the title for the time being.

Game director Ryan Ellis commented on the decision, stating, “While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended.”

Concord is no longer available for purchase, and its servers will officially go offline on September 6. Despite this, Ellis suggested that the team will “explore options” for revamping the game to “better reach our players,” which hints that Concord may return in a different form down the line.

Sony is issuing refunds to all players who purchased the game. PS5 users will receive automatic refunds, while those who bought the game on Steam or the Epic Games Store should expect emails detailing the refund process. Players who purchased physical copies can return them to the store where they were bought for a refund.

The decision to discontinue Concord came as a shock, given that many had not expected such a swift closure, despite the low player base and sales figures. There is speculation that Concord could be relaunched in the future, potentially as a free-to-play title, which many thought it would be from the start.

Before this announcement, Firewalk had ambitious plans for Concord, with the first season, The Tempest, scheduled for an October release, which was set to introduce a new character, map, and cosmetics. Seasons 2 and 3 were slated for January and April, respectively, though these timelines will almost certainly change following the game’s sudden removal.
