He and Ed Jones discover the world has been overrun with zombies after returning from fishing trip together, using walkie talkies to contact Lily Ritter via walkie talkie; following her direction and heading toward Church of Ascension where Lily has established a base alongside other survivors; Lily convinces them to remain and they begin developing relationships within its community.
