Sony today announced that the PlayStation 5’s cost would rise in all regions of the globe. Although the United States was not affected by this surprise announcement, it hasn’t been well received since it was made earlier today. The Xbox Series X/S has become the most affordable system in most countries. Microsoft says that this is not the case at the moment.

Microsoft stated to Windows Central that it did not intend to increase the price of the Xbox Series X or the less powerful but more affordable Xbox Series S.

“We’re constantly reviewing our business to ensure that we offer great gaming options for our customers. The suggested retail price for the Xbox Series S is $299 (PS250 and EUR300), while the Xbox Series X retail price is $499 (PS450 and EUR500),” the company informed the outlet.

It’s strange to clarify this, but Sony has just announced to most people today. This was a shock for most of the affected regions. Anyone who might have thought of purchasing the PlayStation 5 tomorrow will be disappointed. Japan was the only country that received any warning, as the price hike won’t be in effect until September 15, 2015.
