Valve has just released a new update for its upcoming game, Deadlock, aimed at addressing a game-breaking bug in the in-game shop while introducing crucial stability and performance improvements. This latest update marks a significant step in the game’s ongoing development, as Valve works to refine Deadlock’s experience.
Deadlock, which was first announced in August following months of speculation, is currently in a closed beta phase accessible only through invitations. Despite the limited access, Valve has been actively rolling out updates to enhance the game. A previous update in mid-September brought several features like 24/7 matchmaking, behavior tracking, and a new minimap, while also adjusting balance and fixing bugs.
The latest Deadlock update specifically targets a bug affecting in-game shop mechanics. Players could previously exploit the shop system by shooting at shop locations, triggering unintended effects that granted characters like Deadlock’s Wraith unfair advantages, such as gaining card charges and lifestyle benefits. With this patch, Valve has fixed these exploits, restoring balance to the gameplay.
Beyond bug fixes, the update introduces a few gameplay adjustments, including a 20% speed increase for heroes on outer ziplines and a reduction of initial respawn time from 12 seconds to 8 seconds. Additionally, when using Mirage’s Traveler to teleport, players can now drop the Urn, which rewards them and their team with spirits, enhancing the strategic elements of the game.
As Deadlock evolves through its beta phase, Valve continues to experiment with creative solutions for addressing in-game issues, such as giving players the option to either ban cheaters or turn them into frogs before banning them.
Despite being in the early stages, Deadlock is building an enthusiastic player base on Steam. With continuous updates and refinements, the game is poised to offer a polished experience by the time of its official launch.
