Blizzard Entertainment published Warcraft III in July 2002. It is a high fantasy strategy video game. This is the sequel to Warcraft, Orcs & Humans. It also marks the third installment in the Warcraft universe. In July 2003, an expansion pack called The Frozen Throne was released.
There are four playable factions to choose from: Orcs and Humans, which were both presented in previous games, as well as two new factions, Night Elves or the Undead. The single-player campaign for Warcraft III is similar to StarCraft’s and follows a progression through the races. The players can either play against the computer or other players using local networking or Blizzard’s Battle.net gaming platform.
Warcraft III can be played on maps of different sizes, including large plains or fields with terrain features such as rivers, mountains, and seas. Players must build settlements, defend themselves against other players, and train units to travel the map and defeat computer-controlled foes. A new “upkeep” system reduces the amount of gold that units can be produced. This forces players to limit their units to avoid being penalized.
