The seventh game in the Need for Speed series after Hot Pursuit 2 (2002) is Need for Speed: Underground, a racing video game released in 2003. Electronic Arts published it after EA Black Box developed it. The game was created in three versions: one for the Game Boy Advance, one for consoles, and one for Microsoft Windows. Two years later, an arcade version created by Global VR and co-published by Konami was released.
Underground had vehicles related to the import scene, in contrast to earlier Need for Speed games that featured exotics and sports cars. It was the first game in the series to provide players access to both a garage mode where they could completely personalize their cars with a detailed plot and a career mode.
