Empires of the Undergrowth:
The mission is told from the point of view of a documentary filmmaker who studies ants. This gives an intelligent look into the daily life of the colony as well as the undergrowth. Formicarium is the primary game mode available in early access. Here you can take control of a home colony made up of DNA-harvesting, unique ants and help them adapt to their enemies’ traits. You can upgrade them through one-off missions. Sometimes you play with your home colony, but sometimes with other ant species.

Empires of the Undergrowth, a strategy game that takes place in real-time, is based on the world of ants. It involves underground tunnelling, nest building, and fast-paced battles against insects, arachnids, and other ant colonies. Our inspirations came from Sim Ant and Dungeon Keeper and Starcraft 2’s popular arcade game ‘Desert Strike. This game offers a unique alternative to sci-fi, fantasy, and real-war settings. The single-player campaign lets the player take control of a unique colony of DNA-harvesting, nomadic insects that embarks on a long journey. They must build temporary nests, gather food and defeat their neighbours. The story is told from the point of view of a documentary filmmaker studying ants. There’s a little humour.
