The storyline of the game draws parallels with HG Wells the book The Island of Dr. Moreau which depicts the fear that man has of the scientific power.
The player plays the principal protagonist, Jack Carver, a ex-elite soldier of the US Marines who has retired and is now earning a livelihood by taking boat tours within Micronesia (South Pacific). The plan is to bring his journalist Valerie Constantine on a trip to the cluster of unnamed islands which aren’t on the map.
Valerie claims to want to capture photographs of Japanese ruin sites of in the Second World War there. While returning to the island, however the boat of Carver is shot (with an axe) and is sunk.
Amid the fire of unknown mercenaries, he gets swept away into the cave. Since then the player is in full control over the person. The first stage is a radio which the mysterious character Harlan Doyle uses to report. Harlan Doyle informs the player of his current situation and gives valuable tips. The beginning of the game, the search for the missing Valerie is on the foreground and later, Jack’s aim is to flee the island.
Doyle helps Jack by providing vital details about the enemy’s forces and how they might be weakened or weakened, and even allows him to smuggle his information in a boat. However, Doyle is the only one who leaves Jack completely in the dark regarding his personal role in the islands, and doesn’t divulge any more specifics.
Within the game, you’ll find secret laboratories for research belonging to the Krieger Corporation inside the islands that are where mutations (so-called trigens ) who have been treated by a chemical that alters the genetic code (a mutagen ) are then bred.
