FFXIV Patch 6.38 Makes Minor Alterations to PVP and Abyssos Gear
As you might have guessed from its insignificant change to version number, FFXIV Patch 6.38 is here and offers some minor yet important updates, like those regarding PVP balance and Abyssos restrictions. So let’s take a closer look at all of the details in today’s Final Fantasy patch notes!
Let’s begin with the most obvious changes first: Patch 6.38 now makes it simpler to acquire and upgrade certain gear from Pandaemonium: Abyssos and Allagan Tomestones of Causality. Weekly restrictions have been removed from Pandaemonium: Abyssos (Savage), plus raid groups now receive two guaranteed treasure coffers per successful run. Furthermore, those still playing normal difficulty can now acquire even more Unsung Blades of Abyssos; there are no longer any limits on how many can be obtained from The Eighth Circle.
Tomestone gear fans now have access to Moonshine Brine from Nesvaaz in Radz-at-Han (X: 10.6, Y: 10.0) for either one Aglaia Coin or Euphrosyne Coin. In case you’re struggling with keeping all your brine, shine, twine etc. straight, Moonshine Brine is the upgrade material used to bring Lunar Envoy weapons up to their final state – known as “Augmented”.
Once we get past gear talk and into actual gameplay changes… There’s not much to discuss here. PvP adjustments have been made with Crystalline Conflict getting special attention; however, most Jobs have received minor balance adjustments to PVP skills that will take effect across all modes.
It’s mostly just potency changes (i.e. some skills do more or less damage and/or healing than before). Paladin and Warrior, two popular classes on player-versus-player battlefields, both saw notable nerfs to their abilities. Paladin’s “Phalanx” skill (the Limit Break) now only reduces incoming damage by 33 percent instead of 50 percent, making the class feel a bit less unkillable; Warrior’s “Blota,” which draws enemies in close before slowing their movement speed to a crawl – likely what killed you before–also saw its slow down from five seconds to three seconds.
On the official patch notes page, you can view all the changes that have been made. Notably, “Time until the tactical crystal is unbound has been reduced from 30 to 20 seconds”–this refers to a crystalline payload players must push during Critical Hit (CC). Reducing starting times by 10 seconds should make matches faster and increase rewards earned by players faster.
Ah yes, patch 6.38 also marks the conclusion of PVP season for 2019. Be sure not to get confused with the PVP series which is a pseudo-battle pass exclusive to PVP and has its own schedule.
That’s pretty much it for this iterative patch! These incremental updates rarely add much new content, but this does mean we’re one step closer to the release of FFXIV Patch 6.4 which promises even more exciting additions for players to explore. Stay tuned until then!
