Firewatch overview:
1989 is the year. Henry is a man who has chosen to leave behind his chaotic life and become a fire watcher in Wyoming’s wilderness. It’s your job, perched high on a mountain, to search for smoke and protect the wildlife. Everyone is on edge during a sweltering and dry summer. Delilah, your supervisor, is always available via a small handheld radio. This radio is your only connection to the outside world.
When something strange pulls you from your tower, and you are drawn into the forest, it will take you to a wild and unexplored environment. You’ll face questions and make choices that could strengthen or weaken your only relationship. Firewatch is about adults having adult conversations over adult topics. It is a good idea to inform your younger friend if you are going to play with them. It is a stunning wilderness environment that grows as you explore. You create your own story. Your choices determine the narrative and establish relationships—an edge-of-your-seat mystery. Discoveries and secrets await you on every hill.
Firewatch Pre-Installed
The game had many opportunities. I appreciated them all – creatively, artistically, stylistically and genre-wise. It missed a lot of options, but it did hit some times. I can recommend it enough times. It’s an enjoyable enough game experience to merit a playthrough by most gamers. The best part is the early portion. The middle part was a bit sloppy, and the ending was a little disappointing. A few beats that could have made the game feel better and more complete were missed. It may not have “fixed” it, but it’s okay.
It was an enjoyable experience. It wasn’t great, but it was not terrible. Although I hesitated about calling this game “overrated”, I finally decided to call it that. I believe it’s the most popular indie or story game people have ever played. It’s fine.
