Jack Black desires a Red Dead Redemption movie
Jack Black may be busy promoting The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the actor has revealed his desire for another video game adaptation – Red Dead Redemption.
At GAMINGbible, we were big fans of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s great fun if you’re familiar with the franchise, but it hasn’t exactly been met with universal approval by critics. HBO’s The Last of Us set an incredible bar for adaptations – and there are so many more on the way! Netflix’s Horizon Zero Dawn series and Amazon’s Fallout and God of War projects are just the start – there are also movies like Ghost of Tsushima or Gran Turismo coming soon enough! Jack Black wants Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption adapted into television as well!
In an interview with the BBC, Black expressed his enthusiasm for HBO’s The Last of Us. “Adaptations can be great when done well,” he said. “But The Last of Us really stood out because it stayed faithful to its source material – basically just tweaks here and there – which is amazing considering how faithfully faithful it stays to the game itself. It looks almost identical – which will probably win all awards.” He added: “They used the video game almost like a storyboard – I was like, ‘Whoaaa! This looks exactly the same’!”
He continued, “There are some incredible games that have yet to be explored in television or film. Maybe there will be a Red Dead Redemption movie? There should be, because that has just as good or even better story than The Last of Us.” As someone who enjoys both shows equally, I can’t definitively say RDR is superior, but it would certainly be amazing if it received the big screen treatment.”
What would you like to see from an RDR adaptation? Everyone seems to want a prestige TV series from HBO now on, and that’s understandable.
