Krile Gains More Focus, FFXIV Team Sets Up Next Expansion Story
The Final Fantasy XIV Community is currently deep into patch 6.2. The patch storyline has minor spoilers for those who aren’t already familiar with the plot. It sees the Scions traveling into the Void in search of Vrtra’s sister and solving the problem of travel between the worlds. The Warrior of Light and Golbez, his Four Fiends, are also present.
The FFXIV team already stated that the 6. x story, unlike other post-patch storylines, will conclude before moving into the next expansion. In a recent episode of the Japanese FFXIV podcast From Eorzea with Love (Episode 393), Yoshida, Nanjou Yoshino, and Krile’s voice actor Nanjou Yoshino discussed Patch 7.0.
A translation of a Livedoor Blog by Reddit user MKillerby shows that the narrative team behind FFXIV just finished their writer’s retreat for the next expansion. The team also held the Endwalker retreat in the second half of 2019, and the expansion was launched one year later. This gives us an idea of when the next expansion might launch in late 2023. This would also align with the development cycles and patch cadence (although there should be a more significant gap between 6.5-7.0). The team also stated that crucial art for 7.0 had been ordered.
It is also possible that we will be putting more emphasis on Krile in Patch 7.0. Yoshida stated that the team would shine more light on the Scion, as they did back in January 2022. Krile is a part of the Alliance raid storyline Aglaia, but she’s not the main focus as you’re busy fighting the Twelve. After wearing the same Pikachu coat since Patch 3.1, the Baldesion heiress will be sporting a new look.
Patch 7.0 is still a ways off. We can expect Patch 6.21 next Wednesday and Patch 6.25 sometime around October 2022. This patch will include new Tribal Quests, Variant, Criterion Dungeons, and Criterion Dungeons, as well as the all-new Endwalker Series of relic weapons.
