Splitgate was a surprise hit. Its popularity surged after it was adopted and embraced by streamers and other fans who were interested in the free-to play shooter. It’s not surprising that Splitgate attracted a lot of attention from the beginning. The gameplay combines traditional deathmatch titles with Portal. It is surprising to learn that 1047 Games, the developer of Splitgate, has decided to leave the title and begin work on their next big project.

1047 today announced that the next Splitgate update would be the last. The developer is now looking to their next project, which will also be set in the Splitgate universe created in Unreal Engine 5. The new update will create a Battle Pass that never expires and set weekly playlists in perpetuity. Item drops will continue for the foreseeable future.

“After much thought and consideration, the 1047 team decided that we need to make the game fans want – and not retrofit existing games – so we have turned our attention from smaller iterative updates and are focusing our efforts on a new Splitgate …” game,” said Ian Proulx, 1047 CEO.

The developer stated that the game would remain in beta for as long as possible, and they planned to keep working on it. The developer has updated the final version of the game to announce that it is now out of beta and no longer requires that designation. Splitgate was also released for consoles in 2022. However, it is considered an entirely different version of the game due to the fact that much of the gameplay had been retuned to controllers.

Splitgate enthusiasts, it is not over. The servers will be open and the battle pass will feature new characters and skins. It seems that the developers are excited about their new ideas. It’s hard to predict if these new ideas will be as successful as Splitgate. But, considering the bizarre journey this game has taken so far, it’s hard to believe that anything could be considered unrealistic.
