Steam: “Unable to contact the game’s item server.” CS:GO Error
Many in the CS:GO community prefer to purchase items such as cases from the Steam Community Market rather than wait for them to drop in-game. Unfortunately, there continue to be issues between Steam and CS:GO’s servers – when will this cease?
Today you may be finding that your inventory is unavailable and community market items are inaccessible – know that you are not alone in this experience.
This error message appears when trying to purchase something from the Steam Community Market right now. These issues come after a particularly challenging week for CS:GO users, in which server issues prevented anyone from playing at all last week.
Now it appears the servers have been fixed for matchmaking, however CS:GO and Steam’s item servers remain down.
At present, it appears that many CS:GO players are reporting the error, as evidenced by an old Reddit post. Though more than two years old, this post still has active comments from players experiencing this issue.
CS:GO Inventory Unavailable Error
Unfortunately, it appears these issues are caused by problems within Steam itself and its inventory servers; not only can we not access items on the Steam Community Market, but our inventories as well.
How to fix We were unable to contact the game’s item server error
There is nothing you can do other than wait for Steam to resolve these issues, but if you would like to attempt fixing the error yourself, here are a couple of steps we recommend.
You can try these steps to resolve the “We were unable to contact the game’s item server” error in Steam:
- Restart your computer
- Reboot your router
- Alter the Steam download location
- Log out and back into Steam
These fixes ensure that Steam has issues, not your hardware and internet.
We sincerely hope Valve and Steam can resolve these issues soon, as having problems with the game and services almost daily is becoming a real nuisance.
