WINTERMUTE is the episodic story mode of The Long Dark. It includes two episodes from Season One. In the Redux Update, both episodes received a complete overhaul. This included new mission structures, story beats and dialogues, and animations.
After their plane crashes in the Northern Canadian wilderness, Will Mackenzie (player role) and Dr AstridGreenwood are separated. After a mysterious flash in the sky causes the plane to crash deep in the Canadian wilderness. Mackenzie struggles to survive while desperately searching for Astrid. He eventually finds Milton, which helps him understand the magnitude of the quiet apocalypse.
