Twisted Wonderland Anime Season One – Everything You Should Know

Disney has made recent steps into the anime market with shows like Star Wars: Visions and Tokyo Revengers, while creating smartphone gacha games such as Twisted Wonderland that draw loose inspiration from characters found across its popular franchises. Twisted Wonderland first made its debut as an international smartphone gacha game back in 2020 before reaching America and Canada via localization by 2022; currently a manga adaptation is in progress.

Twisted Wonderland: Season 1 will soon arrive for anime fans; here is all you need to know.
At this writing, there has yet to be an official release date set for Twisted Wonderland: Season 1. Originally announced back in October 2021, though neither Disney or Aniplex have revealed much additional information regarding this project since. Walt Disney Japan Tweeting out promotional posters is all that’s been shared regarding Twisted Wonderland at this point in time.

Twisted Wonderland seems like it could be an intense counterpart of Little Witch Academia with its dark story and protagonist named Yuu who gets transported to another world and taken to Night Ravens College magic training school, eventually meeting many top students while searching for ways back home.

The dormitories and their characters were inspired by various Disney properties:

  • House Heartslabyul was inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s Queen of Hearts; House Savanaclaw by Scar from
  • The Lion King; House Octavinelle by Ursula from The Little Mermaid and Scarabia by Jafar from Aladdin
  • House Pomefiore was inspired by Snow White and Seven Dwarfs’ Evil Queen; while House Ignihyde represented Hades from Hercules.
  • House Diasomnia, inspired by Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty, would likely follow its prologue and book 1 (The Rose Red Tyrant). Yu would likely meet Riddle Rosehearts from Alice in Wonderland; there will likely be ample content for future seasons as Twisted Wonderland offers six books excluding its prologue!

Aniplex does have several subsidiary animation studios they could work with, though Disney also collaborated with Studio Trigger and Production I.G in creating Star Wars: Visions mobile game. As Yana Toboso (Black Butler manga artist) played an active part in creating concept art for it, A1 Pictures could potentially serve as animators on this show as well.
