Blizzard Confirms Major Changes in Overwatch 2 for Doomfist and Tracer
Overwatch 2 tanks aren’t the only ones getting nerfed. Blizzard confirmed Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, and Tracer will likely also see drastic overhauls as part of the big switch to Overwatch 5v5 matches in place of the traditional 6v6 matches (thanks Dexerto).
Blizzard’s community manager, Andy B, made the announcement on a Blizzard forum thread discussing the Overwatch 2 PvP showcase where players expressed concerns over balance issues.
Andy specifically responded to a user who said that heroes with greater mobility would have an unfair advantage over others in Overwatch 2, particularly with the changes that were displayed.

Andy stated that “We’ve seen heroes like Doomfist and Wrecking Ball (and some degree Tracer) will need to be rebalanced and possibly even nerfed to ensure they are not overpowered in this new meta.”
“Changes like the ones we’ve discussed in the PVP Livestream are incredibly complicated. These changes have wide-ranging ramifications that can be applied throughout the game. Correctly, your question assumes that they cannot be evaluated in a vacuum.
They also stated that tanks will remain the “undisputed authority” in blocking damage. This is partly due to the fact that the enemy tank won’t be blocking all damage incoming and because support units can focus more on the healing of a single tank.
In July, the state of California sued Activision Blizzard for discrimination and harassment against employees. Soon after the initial accounts were confirmed by workers, numerous allegations were made online about workplace toxicities and abuse. Employees created an informal organization to demand a better response from management. While some of the most prominent figures in the scandal have left, Bobby Kotick, the CEO, has not yet acknowledged any of the allegations.
