Here’s how expensive the Xbox Series X Standby mode is
Gaming is a costly hobby. A recent study found that the average American gamer spends $58,000 (PS50.382) per year on their hobby. Unsurprisingly, many of us will cut back on gaming-related spending. However, there are hidden costs that you might not realize are possible.
If you are looking for ways to reduce gaming-related spending, it might be worth considering clearing your backlog rather than buying new games or reducing your time on your console. You could end up paying a lot of electricity if you own an Xbox series X.
Alex Hern, a technology editor at The Guardian, pointed out that an Xbox Series X left unattended can result in owners paying PS132 per year for electricity. This would be the default mode if your Xbox Series X were purchased before May 2022. You can change this by selecting your settings and Energy Saver Mode. It should be set to Energy Saver Mode if you purchased your Xbox Series X after 2022. However, it is worth checking.
Hern points out that the PlayStation 5’s default settings mean it runs at around PS4 per year when it is not being used. Hern stated, “It is scarce for a Series X standby mode to use the same power as a Series X, which is why I’m highlighting it.” There were 1.15 million UK buyers of the Xbox Series X with the expensive standby mode. Please check your settings if that’s you.
