No one could truly vouch for microtransactions being an option; whether they be attached to free-to-play titles, or worse still paid full price games; I doubt anyone enjoys spending extra on gaming than necessary.

Microtransactions have long been an integral component of video game companies’ revenue models – from battle passes and cosmetic upgrades, games companies use microtransactions as effective tactics for extracting more money out of players wallets. Recently, CharlieINTEL reported on Modern Warfare II premium sales having grown substantially when compared with Vanguard premium sales during Q1. Call of Duty’s in-game microtransaction sales also saw year-on-year gains.”

Modern Warfare II outselling Vanguard Q1 sales should come as no shock; but, according to Dexerto’s reports, many have been left shocked and disheartened at hearing about microtransactions as Dexerto reports; fans responded negatively when CharlieINTEL tweeted out this news; one fan responded accordingly by writing in their response that Call of Duty will never improve again: “And this is why CoD will never improve! “.
Redditors weren’t alone in thinking this way; most weren’t surprised to see these sales numbers but still expressed frustration over it. turboS2000 expressed similar thoughts as fans on Twitter when commenting “And this is why the game will never get better”, while “This final proof I won’t expect any improvements for next seasons/title(s), people keep spending even if game barely playable,” AVMADEVS lamented.

Activision recently unveiled Call of Duty: The Board Game as an answer, an offline strategy game based on this iconic franchise with no microtransactions at all – no doubt eliminating any hopes that I would cram any in-game purchases into that.
