Even now, to say HBO’s The Last of Us was a major success is an understatement. I never expected my non-gaming friends to express such enthusiasm about the show – it truly is an inspiring thing to witness. It truly has captured everyone’s hearts. It truly has become something special to witness.

Once awards season arrives, The Last of Us will surely be up for every award possible. After just two episodes had aired, Sky announced that their season finale was their most-watched debut series ever – and now preproduction on that second season has started. Furthermore, The Last of Us has now been nominated for its first set of awards – including one for its most controversial moment.

Nominations for The MTV Movie Awards have been revealed and The Last of Us has earned five nods. It’s up for ‘Best Show’, ‘Best Hero’ for Pedro Pascal as Joel, ‘Breakthrough Performance’ for Bella Ramsey as Ellie, ‘Best Duo’ between Pedro and Bella, as well as ‘Best Kiss’ – an odd nomination considering it was for Anna Torv’s Tess and Philip Prajoux’s infected! Yes, that kiss of death was included here too!
At the end of episode two, an infected Tess approached another already-infected Tess and transferred cordyceps fungus into her via her mouth. It looked like some kind of mushroom-infested kiss, which is exactly what it was – creating a scene that divided fans.

Though it’s an odd choice for a nomination, consider the heartwarming kiss between Bill and Frank in ‘Long Long Time’ or Bella Ramsey and Storm Reid’s beautiful chemistry in ‘Left Behind’. Although I haven’t watched The MTV Movie Awards in many years, I remember they used to recreate this kiss every year – hopefully we won’t have to witness it again this year!
