PlayStation boss confirms multiple cancelled PS5 titles

Shuhei Yoshida has revealed during an interview that multiple PS5 titles are currently being cancelled on an ongoing basis.

With all the AAA blockbusters such as God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West or Gran Turismo 7 being released each year, many projects never make it past production to hit retail shelves.

Yoshida acknowledged in an interview with The Guardian that Sony cancelled “many games.” Thus it should come as no shocker that cancelation projects are an inextricable part of industry life.

Yoshida stated, “PlayStation embraces new ideas but many fail. After creating prototypes and conducting evaluations on them, we either decide whether to invest further time and resources or cancel altogether – this happened many times with games.” “Typically I try convincing developers that my actions will help save them from getting caught in an ineffective project that eventually goes no further.

Yoshida commented that, even with so many projects being cancelled we never even knew existed, it can often be hard to tell “people with strong ideas” that their concepts won’t come into fruition.

Unfortunately, Shuhei Yoshida failed to reveal which projects have been cancelled, leaving us only speculation at this time. Recent instances include Silent Hills by Kojima Productions as well as reports that Sony may cancel a Days Gone sequel.

There have also been reports that an Uncharted spin-off may not be developed by Naughty Dog – meaning another cancelled project never comes to fruition.

Truth be told, perhaps it would have been best if we hadn’t known of cancelled projects that we might still be playing today if not for knowing about Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills being cancelled by Konami (an act for which we shall never forgive).
