Red Dead Redemption 2 players were surprised to see that Pinkerton Detective Agency is still active following its raid against an influential Magic: The Gathering YouTuber.

Reportedly, Magic: The Gathering publisher Wizard of the Coast hired Pinkertons to investigate Dan ‘Oldschoomtg’ Cannon from streamer channel Twitch after they believe he leaked unreleased cards to Twitch streamers.
Cannon stated he acquired these cards through an accident; when purchasing cards online from an online seller he believed to be genuine, unreleased ones instead appeared instead. Pinkerton agents arrived shortly thereafter knocking at Cannon’s door demanding they return these unofficial products, further stressing and worrying the streamer.

Red Dead Redemption 2 fans quickly recognised Pinkertons, as the game features multiple missions where some of their agents come across the protagonist in various missions.
Rockstar Games and publisher Take-Two Interactive found themselves embroiled in controversy when real-life Pinkerton agency challenged Rockstar’s inclusion of it within their game as it violated their trademark, leading them to file suit back at Take-Two Interactive who filed their own counter suit in response.

Pinkerton National Detective Agency is well-known, particularly among fans of western fiction, for being an active part of life back in the old west. Agents could be hired for multiple reasons including investigating wrongdoings and providing protection to those in need. Today they still exist but mostly serve as extra muscle when investigations take place.

Many players will only ever hear of these men from Red Dead Redemption 2, prompting much surprise when news emerged they’d raided a Magic: The Gathering fan.
