This Strand Needs Enhancement in Destiny 2
Strand subclasses in Destiny 2 offer a range of features, but Threadlings seem the least impressive. Suspending enemies is an impressive effect, grappling is enjoyable and useful for quick movement, and unravelling can assist with crowd control – yet Threadlings don’t seem to make much of an impact.
Threadlings aren’t completely useless in Destiny 2. In PVP, they can help with trades while PVE provides extra damage. But on their own, Threadlings cannot compete with the other options for damage output.
Warlocks, for instance, are supposed to be the Threadling master class in Destiny 2. To achieve optimal play, Warlocks should consume Tangle Grenades to gain access to an effect which causes suspending explosions on enemy defeats. Suspending enemies prevents them from fighting back and provides a useful means of dealing with Champions. Conversely, forgoing this ability in favor of using Threadling-generating grenade means forgoing one major advantage of Strand: suspend enemies!
Threadlings can be built upon, but doing so requires a considerable amount of work and spending fragment slots on improving them. Thus, you may opt out of some options which could have made your life simpler if you weren’t trying to use them at all.
How could Destiny 2 improve Threadlings? Perhaps giving them an extended lifespan would be beneficial. Other possible enhancements could include granting them some kind of debuff on enemies or increasing their damage, though that would likely make them too powerful. With new Strand features coming soon to Destiny 2, threadlings may find new uses; for now though, they remain mostly a bonus for Strand subclass users rather than something worth building around.
