Xbox gamers outraged as major exclusive to launch with 30fps only
Bethesda’s highly anticipated Xbox exclusive will not feature 60FPS performance mode at launch – and fans are furious.
Don’t fret – it’s actually Redfall – an open world FPS developed by Arkane Studios. Players are tasked with eliminating vampires who’ve invaded their titular town either solo or alongside friends.
Given Redfall’s delay last year, you would think its final version would be of top-notch quality. But fans are growing increasingly worried about its stability given that 30FPS on both Xbox Series X and S will be limited at launch.
On Reddit, fans have expressed their displeasure: “Microsoft first-party action first-person shooter is limited to 30FPS in 2023! This makes it seem impossible that this could possibly be real in 2023 – which explains why all preview footage was captured on PC with Microsoft and Arkane insisting media use a controller rather than [mouse and keyboard],” Pruntessia wrote.
Others concur: “My upgrade to the next-gen consoles was specifically for 60FPS – as that seemed to be the default setting on PS5. If both Starfield and Redfall release at 30FPS with no promise of adding it later, then I will seriously regret my Series X purchase and question Microsoft’s post acquisition management of these studios,” We1tfunk noted. “For Redfall to release in 2023 on a next-gen only console with only 30FPS mode[,] these decisions seem asinine – especially considering what will become of it later!” WetBreadSoupSandwich concluded: “[What the f**k] do these people think?!?”
Devs have promised that 60FPS performance mode “will be added via game update at a later date”, though an exact timeline has yet to be provided. Redfall is scheduled for release on 2 May.
