After this Last of Us Part I Atrocity, I can’t handle Sony’s meme Gifs
Sony has recently created meme-y gifs from its first-party games to celebrate each launch. I admit that I have a few Last of Us Part 2 ones on my phone. I’d sometimes send a gif showing Joel, the series protagonist, raising a glass in the same way as Gatsby in the 2013 Great Gatsbyadaptation instead of the same image with Leonardo DiCaprio. This has become a common occurrence with every game. It seems like studios are looking for new references. One gif from the latest batch, The Last of Us Part 1 remake, has me projecting from my physical body. This is the gif I’m referring to of Ellie dancing in Saint Mary’s Hospital.
haven’t may seem strange to those who haven’t played The Last of Us. This is a horrifying scene for a long-time fan—ThisZendaya’s dancing Euphoria. Zendaya’s character Rue also did it while she was walking through a hospital. The context in which this place is shown in the gif makes it so terrible. This hallway was where ElliUs’sst her entire worldview. In The Last of Us’s final chapter, a surgeon is about to kill Ellie to cure the cordyceps disease that has decimated the world. Ellie has immunity that could lead to a medical breakthrough in the post-apocalyptic future. Joel tells Ellie that Joel must go into the operating room to kill the surgeon. Part 2 Ellie returns to the same house and discovers the truth. This ruins Ellie’s relationship and makes her more skeptical. Here she is, jumping off the operating table for Ellie’s move.
