Sony’s Shuhei YoshIDA Is Upbeat About AI Tools’ Impact On Game Develpment
Shuhei Yoshida of Sony Electronics expressed optimism regarding the potential influence of artificial intelligence tools in game development.
Impacts of AI on creative industries has become a hotly debated subject recently, yet Yoshida maintains that their role won’t diminish to an inconsequential degree.
Yoshida explained to The Guardian recently in an interview: “[AI is a tool], so someone needs to use it.”
AI can produce bizarre results, as you have likely witnessed. In order to use it effectively and produce stunning artworks made by people. AI will alter learning models for game developers but ultimately it will result in faster development times with greater beauty coming out from people using it as well.”
“People may no longer require formal programming training if they know how to utilize future tools of their creation. Creativity, direction and envisioning your desired results should take precedence over technical knowledge.”
Yoshida currently serves a role at his company that involves supporting independent studios with creative game ideas from external studios.
One of the pitches sent him by a small team of students featured “amazingly beautiful graphics” created using Midjourney AI art generator.
Not only can AI provide smaller teams access to resources they otherwise couldn’t easily tap, he also noted its future potential: AI could develop fascinating animations or behaviors for your program – as well as helping debug it!
According to him, gaming industry has always managed to turn technological advancements into enjoyable entertainment – and AI will follow suit in that regard.
As well as increasing diversity and interest among titles highlighted at year’s end.
“As our industry expands and thrives, I hope that creative ideas continue to flourish and nurtured by innovative minds pursuing novel projects. Otherwise, our Top 10 games every year would likely look the same, all becoming service games…That would become quite boring for me!”
How accurate his prediction proves out will soon become evident for ourselves.
